This is a background, Doll Theater Background, I made for my portfolio. I was made traditionally (pencils) and painted afterward with Photoshop.
We had to choose a theme so I went with Matilda – The musical. I also was inspired a lot by one of the backgrounds that is in the webcomic Ava’s Demon.
The UPA style was very fun to do. I had to construct the background with realistic lines (for example, straight vertical lines for the drawers), and then draw over it, moving all lines in a seemingly improvised fashion.
I wanted to show a sort of creepiness through the scene, so I went with a very saturated color opposed by desaturated and opposite color tones.
